Prayers for couples

If you’re in a committed partnership and are enjoying smooth sailing, or encountering bumps along the road, below are prayers to help you navigate the relationship path.

A MARRIAGE BLESSING PRAYER

We thank you, O God, for the Love You have implanted in our hearts. May it always inspire us to be kind in our words, considerate of feeling, and concerned for each other's needs and wishes. Help us to be understanding and forgiving of human weaknesses and failings. Increase our faith and trust in You and may Your Prudence guide our life and love. Bless our Marriage O God, with Peace and Happiness, and make our love fruitful for Your glory and our Joy both here and in eternity.

PRAYER FOR A GOOD HUSBAND OR WIFE

O Jesus, lover of the young, the dearest Friend I have, in all confidence I open my heart to You to beg Your light and assistance in the important task of planning my future. Give me the light of Your grace, that I may decide wisely concerning the person who is to be my partner through life. Dearest Jesus, send me such a one whom in Your Divine wisdom You judge best suited to be united with me in marriage. May her/his character reflect some of the traits of Your own Sacred Heart. May he/she be upright, loyal, pure, sincere and noble, so that with united efforts and with pure and unselfish love we both may strive to perfect ourselves in soul and body, as well as the children it may please You to entrust to our care. Bless our friendship before marriage, that sin may have no part in it. May our mutual love bind us so closely, that our future home may ever be most like Your own at Nazareth.
O
Mary Immaculate, sweet Mother of the young, to your special care I entrust the decision I am to make as to my future wife/husband. You are my guiding Star! Direct me to the person with whom I can best cooperate in doing God's Holy Will, with whom I can live in peace, love and harmony in this life, and attain to eternal joys in the next.
Amen.

PRAYER FOR HUSBANDS AND WIVES

Lord, inspire those men and women who bear the titles "Husband" and "Wife". Help them to look to You to themselves to one another to rediscover the fullness and mystery they once felt in their union. Let them be honest enough to ask: "Where have we been together and where are we going? Let them be brave enough to question: "How have we failed?" Let each be foolhardy enough to say: "For me, we come first". Help them, together to reexamine their commitment in the light of Your love, willingly, openly, compassionately. One Hail Mary...
Hail, O Virgin of Guadalupe. We place under your powerful patronage the purity and integrity of the Holy
Faith in Mexico and in all the American Continent, for we are certain that while you are recognized as Queen and Mother, America and Mexico and our Matrimony will be saved...
Amen.

WEDDING ANNIVERSARY PRAYER

(Name) and (Name), May God bless you and grant you joy. May He deepen your love for each other. May He bless you + in your family and friends, And lead you to unending happiness in Heaven.
May Almighty God, Father, Son, + and Holy Spirit, Bless us all, And keep us in His love for ever and ever.
Amen.

PRAYER OF A SEPARATED OR DIVORCED PERSON

Father, I belong to you. I place myself anew in your hands and acknowledge you as Master and Lord of my life. Grant me the gift of a forgiving heart and cleanse me of any anger, hostility or revenge. Heal my hurts and wounds and teach me to rely on your love. Grant me wisdom of heart and strengthen me by your grace to move on in faith, in trust and in love. Thank you Lord for you love in my life.
Amen.

Prayers for assistance in dire circumstances

What the world needs now is prayers… prayers... prayers!  If everyone will believe in the power of praying, perhaps we’ll see more smiles from people, less financially burdened and anguished souls... a comfortably peaceful world.

IN TIME OF NEED

Heavenly Father, in my present need, help me to believe that you are a wave of my anxiety and will do what is best for me. Give me the strength to trust you and put the present and future in your hands. Grant this through Christ, our Lord.

PRAYER IN TIME OF SUFFERING

Behold me, my beloved Jesus, weighed down under the burden of my trials and sufferings, I cast myself at Your feet, that You may renew my strength and my courage, while I rest here in Your Presence. Permit me to lay down my cross in Your Sacred Heart, for only Your infinite goodness can sustain me; only Your love can help me bear my cross; only Your powerful hand can lighten its weight. O Divine King, Jesus, whose heart is so compassionate to the afflicted, I wish to live in You; suffer and die in You. During my life be to me my model and my support; At the hour of my death, be my hope and my refuge.
Amen.

PRAYER IN TIME OF ILLNESS

Lord Jesus, you came into the world to heal our infirmities and to endure our sufferings. You went about healing all and bringing comfort to those in pain and need. We come before you now in this time of illness asking that you may be the source of our strength in body, courage in spirit and patience in pain. May we join ourselves more closely to you on the cross and in your suffering that through them we may draw our patience and hope. Assist us and restore us to health so that united more closely to your family, the Church, we may give praise and honour to your name.
Amen.
PRAYER IN TIME OF SICKNESS
O Jesus, You suffered and died for us; You understand suffering; Teach me to understand my suffering as You do; To bear it in union with You; To offer it with You to atone for my sins And to bring Your grace to souls in need. Calm my fears; increase my trust. May I gladly accept Your holy will and become more like You in trial. If it be Your will, restore me to health so that I may work for Your honor and glory and the salvation of all men.
Amen.

Prayers for everyone

One day I just found myself researching prayers for specific intentions and found these interesting pleas to benefit our world.  I couldn't help but mull over the state of our society where everything bad that can happen has already happened.  It didn’t take very long before an answer dawned on me:  Perhaps we haven’t been lifting up prayers to the Universe like we used to?

PRAYER FOR SOCIETY

O Jesus, come back into our society, our family life, our souls and reign there as our peaceful sovereign. Enlighten with the splendor of faith and the charity of your tender heart the souls of those who work for the good of the people, for your poor. Impart in them your own spirit, a spirit of discipline, order and gentleness, preserving the flame of enthusiasm ever alight in their hearts. May that day come very soon, when we shall see you restored to the center of civic life, borne on the shoulders of your joyful people.
Amen.

PRAYER FOR AN END TO GOSSIP

Lord Jesus, Son of the Most Holy, How Divinely pure Your thoughts are! Your Words only reflect wonders, Parables worthy of searching minds. I earnestly strive to parallel after You. Tend to my need of respecting others, That I may never gossip against anyone. Guide me in the righteous path of life, Where sensational gossip is non-existent. If by Your will, my intervention is required, Guide me to extinguish the attacks of others. Jesus, You are the glorious light of truth!

PRAYER FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE

Lord Jesus, Carpenter and King, supreme Sovereign of all men, look with tender mercy upon the multitudes of our day who bear the indignities of injustice everywhere. Raise up leaders in every land dedicated to Your standards of order, equity, and justice. Grant unto us, Lord Jesus, the grace to be worthy members of Your Mystical Body, laboring unceasingly to fulfill our vocation in the social apostolate of Your Church. Sharpen our intellects to pierce the pettiness of prejudice; to perceive the beauty of true human brotherhood. Guide our minds to a meaningful understanding of the problems of the poor, of the oppressed, of the unemployed, of all in need of assistance anywhere. Guide our hearts against the subtle lure of earthly things and undue regard for those who possess them. May we hunger and thirst after justice always.
Amen.

PRAYER FOR THE SALVATION OF THE WORLD

Father, hear our prayers for the salvation of the world. Grant Mercy to all souls that turned away from You. Open their hearts and minds with Your light.
Gather Your
children from the east and the west, from the north and the south.
Have mercy O
God on those who do not know You. Bring them out of darkness into Your light. You are our saving God Who leads us in our salvation. Protect us from evil.
Bless and praise You O Lord, hear our
prayers and answer us. You, our Savior, are the hope of all the ends of the Earth and the distant seas. May Your way be known upon Earth; among all nations Your salvation.
We put the world in Your hands; fill us with Your love. Grant us peace through Christ, our Lord.
Amen

Walking with the Lord

“To cultivate a garden is to walk with God.”

The above statement was etched on a rock décor given to me by my friend Mary.  She knew that I had developed a penchant for gardening as I couldn't contain myself from showing off the cabbage size roses I often harvested from my backyard.  I never really pondered on its meaning until one day in Spring when I instantaneously felt overwhelming joy at the sight of all the lovelies springing out from the soil in my own backyard.

You see, a gardener is responsible for the creation of a landscape… where every flower seed should settle… which area of the garden the shady tree should call home... how the bushes should be pruned and the tree branch clipped to make them look pretty  A lot of times, a gardener has to put up with pesky weeds, but the inconvenience is more than compensated when the lush and robust greenery springs out and the flowers bloom.  A gardener needs to have the eye of a layout artist because sowing seeds in the wrong places can make or break the whole picture.

My patio garden is a small, green-packed kind of universe.  I love getting up early on the weekends and visiting it, watering every plant that graces the ground.  I think my garden appreciates the attention judging from the way that every plant is outdoing each other in showing off its glory.

I look next door at my neighbor’s garden and can’t help but feel very proud of what I’ve accomplished.  You see, although her garden is full of colorful perennials, it doesn’t demonstrate (or shall I say... ooze with) the love and care she brings to it.  My other neighbor’s backyard is teeming with thriving weeds, blame it on the long months that the property has sat vacant.  I’ve been tempted to barge in and start pulling out the nasty invaders, but I didn’t want to be charged with trespassing!

For now, I’ll content myself with my backyard paradise.  Some people might say that it’s really nothing to brag about, but because I created it, spending many hard-working hours sowing seeds, I can’t help but feel like a garden god.  Besides, my bird pals that frequent my garden always sound exceedingly ecstatic as they circle the chokeberries.  It’s a confirmation of their approval.  If my feathery friends have fingers, they'll give me the thumbs up sign.  A gardener can’t ask for anything more!

The blessing of good health

I have to be honest, until recently I took my good health for granted.  I’ve always enjoyed waking up in the morning and knowing that all my body parts were working.  Since February this year, I finally came face to face with the knowledge that I might not have fully appreciated something until I was on the verge of losing it.

The downer in my recent life was the cough and chest congestion that plagued me for months.  Last winter we had to deal with extremely frigid (below 0) temperatures.  Although the brutal cold spell lasted for only two weeks, early morning exposure to the bitter cold while I stood outdoors waiting for my ride to work took its toll on my body, bundled up like an Eskimo regardless.

Now that I got rid of that helpless “feeling-like-a-fractured-body” state of mind, I wake up mornings like a reborn bird wanting to fly high and soar to the sky.  Being blessed with good health is a most wonderful thing.  People who are enjoying a healthy body should do everything in their power to protect it and stay away from anything that would jeopardize it.

For instance, when the temperatures get chilly, some people don’t care if their body is exposed to less than kind weather.  I’ve seen USPS delivery workers and FedEx couriers in their shorts delivering mail and packages in snowy conditions.  Men are the worst abusers.  They don’t carry umbrellas in the pouring rain nor wear jackets or gloves in winterlike conditions. The women are more prepared for whatever kind of weather the day brings. A lot of them carry big bags to work because there’s always an umbrella, a raincoat, a sweater or an all-weather jacket for the daily commute… just in case.

In my workplace, I always hear my male associates sneezing, coughing or sounding plain sick.  All of them drive to the office and that’s why they don’t care if the temperatures get chilly or snowflakes start to fall as they walk to their cars.  If you ask me, that’s an excuse to wear my winter wrap or headband to protect my cold ears!  I’ll even throw in a pair of gloves to make that walk warm and comfortable.

I know I should just mind my own business.  However, my good health sometimes depends on those around me.  If people I sit with on the bus or train don’t take care of themselves, what’s the chance that I won’t catch whatever they’re expelling in the air we share?  I believe that I got sick lately not only from the brutal weather, but also from all the airborne viruses in my midst.  Not to mention all the coughs and sneezes I had to put up with in a packed bus or train.

For now, I’m extremely grateful for just feeling fine.  Enjoying good health makes it easier to do the things I love to do.  If you've ever had to put up with some kind of illness, I’m sure you know what I mean.

A story for siblings

One day last week, a feel-good, heartwarming story arrived in my electronic mailbox.  I told the sender, Jane, my once-upon-a-time classmate in high school, that this is the kind of story the world needs.  That's why I felt the need to share it with you.  Thank you, Jane!

I'D LIKE THIS BACK IF IT APPLIES

A little girl went
to her bedroom and pulled a glass jelly jar from its hiding place in the closet.

She poured the change out on the floor and counted it carefully. Three
times, even.. The total had to be exactly perfect.. No chance here for mistakes.

Carefully placing the coins back in the jar and twisting on the cap, she
slipped out the back door and made her way 6 blocks to Rexall's Drug Store with
the big red Indian Chief sign above the door.

She waited patiently for
the pharmacist to give her some attention, but he was too busy at this moment.
Tess twisted her feet to make a scuffing noise. Nothing. She cleared her throat
with the most disgusting sound she could muster. No good. Finally she took a
quarter from her jar and banged it on the glass counter. That did it!

'And what do you want?' the pharmacist asked in an annoyed tone of
voice.. I'm talking to my brother from Chicago whom I haven't seen in ages,' he
said without waiting for a reply to his question.

'Well, I want to talk
to you about my brother,' Tess answered back in the same annoyed tone. 'He's
really, really sick....and I want to buy a miracle.'

'I beg your pardon?'
said the pharmacist.

'His name is Andrew and he has something bad
growing inside his head and my Daddy says only a miracle can save him now. So how
much does a miracle cost?'

'We don't sell miracles here, little girl.
I'm sorry but I can't help you,' the pharmacist said, softening a little.

'Listen, I have the money to pay for it. If it isn't enough, I will get
the rest. Just tell me how much it costs.'

The pharmacist's brother was
a well dressed man. He stooped down and asked the little girl, 'What kind of a
miracle does your brother need?'

' I don't know,' Tess replied with her
eyes welling up. I just know he's really sick and Mommy says he needs an
operation. But my Daddy can't pay for it, so I want to use my money..'

'How much do you have?' asked the man from
Chicago.

'One dollar
and eleven cents,' Tess answered barely audible.

'And it's all the money
I have, but I can get some more if I need to.'

'Well, what a
coincidence,' smiled the man. ' A dollar and eleven cents--- the exact price of a
miracle for little brother.'

He took her money in one hand and with
the other hand he grasped her mitten and said 'Take me to where you live. I want
to see your brother and meet your parents. Let's see if I have the miracle you need.'

That well-dressed man was Dr.  Carlton  Armstrong, a surgeon,
specializing in neuro-surgery. The operation was completed free of charge and it
wasn't long until Andrew was home again and doing well.

Mom and Dad were
happily talking about the chain of events that had led them to this place.

'That surgery,' her Mom whispered, 'was a real miracle. I wonder how
much it would have cost?'

Tess smiled. She knew exactly how much a
miracle cost.... one dollar and eleven cents... plus the faith of a little child.

In our lives, we never know how many miracles we will need.

A
miracle is not the suspension of natural law, but the operation of a higher law.
I know you'll keep the ball moving!

Here it goes. Throw it back to
someone who means something to you!

A ball is a circle, no beginning, no
end. It keeps us together like our Circle of Friends. But the treasure inside
for you to see is the treasure of friendship you've granted to me.

Today
I pass the friendship ball to you.

Pass it on to someone who is a friend
to you.

MY OATH TO YOU...

When you are sad..... I will dry your
tears.

When you are scared..... I will comfort your fears.

When
you are worried...... I will give you hope.

When you are confused..... I
will help you cope.

And when you are lost... and can't see the light, I
shall be your beacon... shining ever so bright.

This is my oath..... I
pledge till the end.

Why you may ask?.... Because you're my friend.

Signed: GOD

INSTANTLY WHEN YOU RECEIVE THIS LETTER, YOU ARE
REQUESTED TO SEND IT TO AT LEAST 10 PEOPLE, INCLUDING THE PERSON WHO SENT IT TO
YOU.

The papaya wonder

I grew up on papaya and therefore have an eternal fondness for this fruit.  On researching its virtues, I was thrilled to learn the many health benefits it offers.  The knowledge has made me eternally grateful to my deceased parents for raising me on papayas.

For those who are unfamiliar with papaya, let me quote the description provided by The George Mateljan Foundation (http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=foodspice&dbid=47):

Deliciously sweet with musky undertones and a soft, butter-like consistency, it is no wonder the papaya was reputably called the "fruit of the angels" by Christopher Columbus. Once considered quite exotic, they can now be found in markets throughout the year. Although there is a slight seasonal peak in early summer and fall, papaya trees produce fruit year round.

Papayas are spherical or pear-shaped fruits that can be as long as 20 inches. The ones commonly found in the market usually average about 7 inches and weigh about one pound. Their flesh is a rich orange color with either yellow or pink hues. Inside the inner cavity of the fruit are black, round seeds encased in a gelatinous-like substance. Papaya's seeds are edible, although their peppery flavor is somewhat bitter. The fruit, as well as the other parts of the papaya tree, contain papain, an enzyme that helps digest proteins. This enzyme is especially concentrated in the fruit when it is unripe. Papain is extracted to make digestive enzyme dietary supplements and is also used as an ingredient in some chewing gums.

Papayas offer not only the luscious taste and sunlit color of the tropics, but are rich sources of antioxidant nutrients such as carotenes, vitamin C and flavonoids; the B vitamins, folate and pantothenic acid; and the minerals, potassium and magnesium; and fiber. Together, these nutrients promote the health of the cardiovascular system and also provide protection against colon cancer. In addition, papaya contains the digestive enzyme, papain, which is used like bromelain, a similar enzyme found in pineapple, to treat sports injuries, other causes of trauma, and allergies.

According to the same source, papaya offers the following health benefits:

·    Heart disease protection

Papayas may be helpful for the prevention of are atherosclerosis and diabetic heart disease.  Papayas are an excellent source of vitamin C as well as a good source of vitamin E and vitamin A (through their concentration of pro-vitamin A carotenoid phytonutrients), three very powerful antioxidants.

These nutrients help prevent the oxidation of cholesterol. Only when cholesterol becomes oxidized is it able to stick to and build up in blood vessel walls, forming dangerous plaques that can eventually cause heart attacks or strokes. One way in which dietary vitamin E and vitamin C may exert this effect is through their suggested association with a compound called paraoxonase, an enzyme that inhibits LDL cholesterol and HDL cholesterol oxidation.

Papayas are also a good source of fiber, which has been shown to lower high cholesterol levels. The folic acid found in papayas is needed for the conversion of a substance called homocysteine into benign amino acids such as cysteine or methionine. If unconverted, homocysteine can directly damage blood vessel walls and, if levels get too high, is considered a significant risk factor for a heart attack or stroke.

·    Digestive health

The nutrients in papaya have also been shown to be helpful in the prevention of colon cancer. Papaya's fiber is able to bind to cancer-causing toxins in the colon and keep them away from the healthy colon cells. In addition, papaya's folate, vitamin C, beta-carotene, and vitamin E have each been associated with a reduced risk of colon cancer.

These nutrients provide synergistic protection for colon cells from free radical damage to their DNA. Increasing your intake of these nutrients by enjoying papaya is an especially good idea for individuals at risk of colon cancer.

·    Anti-inflammatory effects

Papaya contains several unique protein-digesting enzymes including papain and chymopapain. These enzymes have been shown to help lower inflammation and to improve healing from burns. In addition, the antioxidant nutrients found in papaya, including vitamin C, vitamin E, and beta-carotene, are also very good at reducing inflammation. This may explain why people with diseases that are worsened by inflammation, such as asthma, osteoarthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis, find that the severity of their condition is reduced when they get more of these nutrients.

·    Immune support

Vitamin C and vitamin A, which is made in the body from the beta-carotene in papaya, are both needed for the proper function of a healthy immune system. Papaya may therefore be a healthy fruit choice for preventing such illnesses as recurrent ear infections, colds and flu.

·    Macular degeneration protection

Your mother may have told you carrots would keep your eyes bright as a child, but as an adult, it looks like fruit is even more important for keeping your sight. Data reported in a study published in the Archives of Ophthalmology indicates that eating 3 or more servings of fruit per day may lower your risk of age-related macular degeneration (ARMD), the primary cause of vision loss in older adults, by 36%, compared to persons who consume less than 1.5 servings of fruit daily. In this study, which involved over 110,000 women and men, researchers evaluated the effect of study participants' consumption of fruits; vegetables; the antioxidant vitamins A, C, and E; and carotenoids on the development of early ARMD or neovascular ARMD, a more severe form of the illness associated with vision loss. While, surprisingly, intakes of vegetables, antioxidant vitamins and carotenoids were not strongly related to incidence of either form of ARMD, fruit intake was definitely protective against the severe form of this vision-destroying disease. Three servings of fruit may sound like a lot to eat each day, but papaya can help you reach this goal. Add slices of fresh papaya to your morning cereal, lunch time yogurt or green salads. Cut a papaya in half and fill with cottage cheese, crab, shrimp or tuna salad. For an elegant meal, place slices of fresh papaya over any broiled fish.

·    Rheumatoid Arthritis protection

While one study suggests that high doses of supplemental vitamin C makes osteoarthritis, a type of degenerative arthritis that occurs with aging, worse in laboratory animals, another indicates that vitamin C-rich foods, such as papaya, provide humans with protection against inflammatory polyarthritis, a form of rheumatoid arthritis involving two or more joints.

The findings, presented in the Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases were drawn from a study of more than 20,000 subjects and focused on subjects who developed inflammatory polyarthritis and similar subjects who remained arthritis-free during the follow-up period. Subjects who consumed the lowest amounts of vitamin C-rich foods were more than three times more likely to develop arthritis than those who consumed the highest amounts.

·    Lung Health

If you or someone you love is a smoker, or if you are frequently exposed to secondhand smoke, then making vitamin A-rich foods, such as papaya, part of your healthy way of eating may save your life, suggests research conducted at Kansas State University.

While studying the relationship between vitamin A, lung inflammation, and emphysema, Richard Baybutt, associate professor of nutrition at Kansas State, made a surprising discovery: a common carcinogen in cigarette smoke, benzo(a)pyrene, induces vitamin A deficiency.

Baybutt's earlier research had shown that laboratory animals fed a vitamin A-deficient diet developed emphysema. His latest animal studies indicate that not only does the benzo(a)pyrene in cigarette smoke cause vitamin A deficiency, but that a diet rich in vitamin A can help counter this effect, thus greatly reducing emphysema.

Baybutt believes vitamin A's protective effects may help explain why some smokers do not develop emphysema. "There are a lot of people who live to be 90 years old and are smokers," he said. "Why? Probably because of their diet. The implications are that those who start smoking at an early age are more likely to become vitamin A deficient and develop complications associated with cancer and emphysema. And if they have a poor diet, forget it." If you or someone you love smokes, or if your work necessitates exposure to second hand smoke, protect yourself by making sure that at least one of the World's Healthiest Foods that are rich in vitamin A, such as papaya, is a daily part of your healthy way of eating.

I wish to thank The George Mateljan Foundation (http://www.whfoods.org/) for this awesome wealth of information.

Lost bag and a morning from hell

The day’s horoscope encouraged me to “Transform your life into an action movie with you as the star.”   It made me go…. Hmmmm.

What happened that day was action-packed alright… that is, if you can consider chasing a bus as exciting activity.  You see, on the ride to the transfer station where I connect with the bus that drops me off my office, I left my carryall bag which contained my basic traveling essentials (umbrella, summer hat, Vitamin C supplements, cough drops plus the day’s brown bag for lunch).  I realized the missing bag half-way through the trip to work.  I’m the type who gets attached to my belongings and I know that if I didn’t do something to recover my stuff at that moment, my time at work would be… sheer hell.

So I hopped on the next train to return to my transfer station and stalked all the buses that took that morning route.  After two hours of looking like a desperate fool, I decided that it was time to go to the office.  I was very late for work as it was.  Fortunately, I had the good sense earlier to make a call to let someone know about what happened and to expect my tardy arrival.  I felt disappointed for the time wasted, but not defeated.  At least, I did the best I could to track the missing bag.

I called the Lost and Found section of the bus company and received the message that items lost that morning would be delivered to them after noon of the following day.  By then, my sandwiches would have already spoiled unless someone took the liberty of eating them.

The next day I called again and after what seemed like an eternity waiting for a live voice, I was told that the bag I described wasn’t turned in and I was advised to try again the following day.  It is now the third day since the bag was missing in action and I figured that if the bag hasn’t turned up yet, chances are, it never will.  A bus driver told me that they turn in the items left on their routes only if passengers who found those were honest enough to give them to the drivers.  If a passenger didn’t take an interest in my stuff, the driver would eventually find the bag on the seat where I had left it.

The moral lesson I gained from this episode:  When commuting via public transit, I must chain my belongings to my body.  It takes only a mere moment for attention to get diverted specially in the rushed commuting world.  Leaving anything on public transportation can take so much energy recovering it.  I’ve lost a pair of gold earrings on the bus before and what were the chances of getting them back?  Zero!  If the article is not of any monetary or sentimental value to me, the best action is to simply accept it as a lost cause and just chalk up the experience to the lack of human honesty.  These days, I, like everyone else, will be so very lucky to be the beneficiary of people’s kindness.

Prayers for those who are hitting financial rock bottom

These are extremely tough and trying economic times.  The gloomy views of growing unemployment, foreclosure signs and people setting up shop on strreet corners panhandling for their livelihood have succeeded in muralizing our tanking economy.

We may be living contented and happy lives in our comfort zones, but let’s not forget that there are many who aren’t as lucky.  Although we have a right to count life’s blessings, we also have the privilege of taking care of others through our spiritual assistance.

Below are prayers I found for those suffering from the burden of debts and financial hardship.  If our financial houses are solid, or we’re on our way to financial freedom, it gives us reason to pray for others who are swimming in the murky waters of helplessness.

We are blessed…. Let’s pray for the less fortunate others so that they may eventually enjoy the same blessing!

DEBT REMOVAL PRAYER

Lord, I confess I've made mistakes.
I have accumulated too much debt, and
now I can not imagine overcoming it
without your help.

Please Lord, I beg of you to intercede
on my behalf. Provide me with the financial
means to be able to breathe again.

Please forgive my sins, Lord. Walk with
me and help me to make the right decisions
throughout my life.

In your name I pray, Amen.

PRAYERS IN TIMES OF FINANCIAL DIFFICULTIES

(1)
Dear Lord,
Help me find firm ground in this shaky economy.
As I seek work and assistance,
Give me strength not to be anxious when I seem to be going nowhere;
Give me patience not to despair when things look bleak;
Give me serenity to know you are here with me, helping me to carry my crosses each day;
So that I may do Your will,
For the salvation of souls
And my Eternal Life.

(2)
Dear Lord,
In this time of uncertainty,
Be my rock in a world built on sand;
Be my oasis of grace and peace in a world of tension and turmoil;
Help me to carry my cross gracefully, as you did in Your Passion;
Help me to follow Your beam of light in the midst of this darkness;
Help me to see Your will in all things
And show others Your comfort and strength.
Keep me calm when tempers flare up;
Keep me sane in a crazy world;
Keep me focused on the houses in Heaven
rather than the houses of cards collapsing around me;
Keep my eyes focused on the prize of Heaven
and not lose hope in You in this world or in the world to come;
Make me compassionate in dealing with others;
Let me see my travails as carrying my cross and sharing in Your Passion, for the love of You and for the salvation of souls, including mine.
And may all my difficulties be ultimately for my good and Your glory. Amen.

Healing prayers for the people in our life

Being a Baby Boomer, I have had my share of depressing news about people in my life getting seriously ill, or worse, not beating death.

Not everyone is as lucky as my paternal grandpa who lived until 103 years old.  These days, people are prone to suffering from one kind of illness or another.  It's not fun for anyone who has been used to an active lifestyle!

Here are a couple of prayers I found that aid in the healing of those we love (http://www.prayers-for-special-help.com/Prayers-for-Healing.html)Cheers to the power of prayers!

To Heal a Friend

Think, o God, of our friend who is ill, whom we now commend to Your compassionate regard.Comfort him upon his sickbed, and ease his suffering. We beg for deliverance, and submit that no healing is too hard for the Lord, if it be His will.

We therefore pray if it please You, that You bless our friend with Your loving care, renew his strength, and heal what ails him in Your loving name. Thank You, Lord.

Prayers for Healing a Loved One

All our times are in Thy hand.  All diseases come at Thy call, and go at Thy bidding.  Thou redeemest our life from destruction, and crownest us with loving kindness and tender mercies.  We bless Thee, that Thou hast heard prayer, and commanded deliverances for our friend and Thy servant, who has been under Thine afflicting hand.  He (or she) was brought low, but Thou hast helped him (her).  May he (she) not only live, but declare the works of the Lord!

As Thou hast delivered his eyes from tears, his feet from falling, and his soul from death, may he daily inquire:  What shall I render unto the Lord for all his benefits towards me, and resolve to offer unto Thee the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and to call upon the name of the Lord.  May we ever remember that recovery is only a reprieve and that some day we will go to our rest in the Lord.  May we therefore secure the righteous path and live with eternity ever in our view.
